How much does an author make per book sold-like Nora Roberts or a newbie?

Nora, and her contemporaries J.K.Rowling and Stephen King make millions but that is because their name alone will sell a book. As an author starting out in the business, you can make a decent living if your manuscript is picked up by a major print publisher like Avon, or Harper Collins and their advances, even for first time authors can be up to $30,000. That being said, most first-time authors are rejected by the major publishers, especially without an agent, and usually rely on e-publishers to get their book out. E-publishers often do not offer advances or very little, but pay royalties based solely on sales which can be measly or a bit more.|||It varies widely due to several factors like, market, quality of the work, reputation, etc. I heard once that only 1% of all of the authors in the world make any money for publishers. That means that the Stephen Kings and J.K. Rowlings of the world support the rest of us.|||new authors breaking into the business make very little. It takes years of best-selling novels to get the big bucks.
